Among your new year’s resolutions and goals, I would like to challenge each one of you to systematically and regularly read God’s Word.
The written Word is the fully complete and accurate instruction manual by which we are to live our lives and discern truth and error in conjunction with the Holy Spirit and the living Word (Jesus). It is important for believers to be familiar with the entire Scripture… as Simon has emphasized over the years, we should “read it over and over – from cover to cover.”
The new year is a great time to start a systematic and regular reading schedule. However, if you have started a plan and fallen behind this past year, I would suggest you complete that plan before starting a new one. Attached are some ideas from several sources for various Bible-reading plans. Some require far more commitment than others… any of these will help you get in the habit of a regular diet of God’s Word.
The beginners Bible reading plan can be completed by children in second or third grade. It is a selection 25 readings of 15 verses each month. Here is the link with a monthly schedule that can be downloaded.
Ligonier Ministries has a list of 15 different reading plans (from 1-3 years) listed on their website – each with a brief description and a downloadable PDF file you can use.
Let’s make 2015 a year of faithfully immersing ourselves in God’s Word!
